Day 11

Claim alert! Let’s be honest. I didn’t do much exercise today, and it’s not because it’s a holiday or because I’m lazy or making excuses.

Here’s why:

I did a lot of single-leg exercises yesterday, so I don’t want to put too much pressure on my legs, which could lead to injuries.

Rodwell is hosting an ultimate frisbee clinic at AUPP today from 2 pm to 8 pm, so I need to save energy and avoid putting extra strain on my leg muscles. While this might sound like an excuse, it’s a valid reason to prevent injury.

My arm is also getting better, so I’ve decided to schedule upper body workouts for Wednesdays. I tried some bench presses and barbell presses today, but my arm couldn’t lift as much weight or do as many reps as it used to.

You know what? Nothing feels more embarrassing than lifting 2.5 kg weights on each side at the gym. It feels like a child’s weight, not someone who’s been going to the gym for months. Especially when there’s a guy next to me bench pressing 15 kg on each side (he’s a coach, so I guess, that’s just a warm-up for him).

Even though I felt a little embarrassed, I know what I’m capable of. I used to lift 20 kg on each side for 3 sets of 8 reps before I broke my arm. If I hadn’t broken my arm, I’m sure I could lift even more than that now, not just 2.5 kg.

But sometimes, you have to know when to back down. Of course, “no pain, no gain,” but sometimes, pain is just pain. Too much pain can lead to further issues. So, be consistent, start small again, and it’s okay. You did it last time, and you’ll make it this time too.

Lesson Learned:

People often avoid doing something not because they are incapable, but because there may be reasons unknown to us. For example, I lifted the 2.5 kg weight instead of the 20 kg weight, not because I couldn't lift the heavier weight (well, technically, I can't right now), but because I broke my arm. Just because I can't do it now doesn't mean I won't be able to in the future.
