Here’s what I don’t get

Today, I went to the National Museum to check it off my bucket list for this year. It was also my first time visiting a museum.

Upon arriving, the staff at the payment counter asked if I was a foreigner. I replied in Khmer, and she informed me that the admission fee for Cambodian citizens was 500 riel. As I was about to make the payment, I realized that Nisa had one told me that Cambodian students with an ID card could enter for free. Therefore, I asked her if I still had to pay 500 riel since I had my student ID card with me. She responded affirmatively but mentioned that I wasn’t wearing a student uniform. I attend Paragon, a private university where there is no school uniform, and she kept insisting that all schools and universities have uniforms. This is where my confusion arises. It’s not about not wanting to pay 500 riel; it’s about having a student ID and still being asked to pay for entry.

Upon checking the museum’s website, I found the following admission fees: $5 for foreigners aged 10 to 17, $10 for foreigners aged 18 and above, and 500 riels for Cambodians. Children and school groups are admitted for free. There is no mention of a requirement to wear a student uniform to qualify as a student.

I’m not saying it was her fault, but I strongly believe that there should be an improvement in the museum’s policy to be updated to fit all types of students, whether they’re public or private students. For example, not many educational institutions require uniforms, especially private universities.

I’m not sure if this has only happened to me. Write in the comments if you have faced the same problem as me.

Ughhh tmr’s Monday 🙁
